Home & Auto Insurance

When insurance is mentioned, Home and Auto Insurance (or Personal Lines, as it is referred to in the industry) is what generally comes to mind. And for a lot of people, it may be the only insurance they ever purchase. When it comes to deciding what to insure, the rule of thumb is: If you can't afford to lose it or replace it, you should insure it.

The list of things you might consider insuring includes:

  • Personal Auto - including Vintage Automobiles
  • Home
  • Secondary Home/Recreational Property
  • Condo
  • Tenant Property
  • Boat
  • Motorcycle
  • Trailer
  • Motorhome
  • Jewellery
  • Collections
  • Sports/Athletic Equipment
  • Travel (Emergency Medical Coverage)
  • Personal Liability Insurance Coverage*
  • Group Insurance Coverage is available

In addition to insurance for physical property, a very important consideration is personal liability insurance. This protects you from the consequences of any property damage or bodily injury you may be responsible for. A little known aspect of personal liability coverage is the insurance company's commitment to defend you in court against any action, even if it is frivolous. This can be a significant protection to you. Homeowners packages (this includes Condominium and Tenants' policies) include personal liability coverage, and of course liability coverage is required by law in order for you to operate a motor vehicle on public roads. Increased limits are available in both cases, if desired. Remember, your auto liability coverage only applies when you are driving your vehicle, and your personal liability coverage does not apply when you are driving a vehicle.
